Educational Trips

Are you ready to learn some off the grid skills? The best way - turn off your phone, grab a pack, get your legs moving and come out to the Superstition Wilderness with us for an overnight to learn some amazing skills that will help you get off the grid more often - with friends or family. We will show you some outdoors skills like map reading, Leave No Trace principles, camp set up, packing light, but with essentials (and comfort), etc. If you are already a skilled backpacker, you may learn a tip or two.  Or, maybe you know it all but just need some people to back pack with. Regardless, there is always a good reason to get out and backpack with other fun people.  You will be with a Wilderness First Responder certified guide to show you the ropes and also provide you with a sense of security.  We have yet to lose anyone, but it is on our bucket list.

The actual location of the hike will vary as we always try to got to a location that is accessible by most any vehicle, no more than moderate in difficulty, and has water nearby for filtering.  We try to keep the backpacking miles to 5 each day.

Day 0

Meet at JRI at 5pm the evening before the overnight backpacking trip to go over packing list, proper packing, pack fitting, proper clothing, meals, and to answer questions

Day 1 and 2

We will meet at the JRI store at 7am and then carpool to the trailhead (or, you can meet at the trail head). Over the course of the 2 days we will learn Leave No Trace principles, map skills, desert hiking skills, cooking and the other fun things you can do in the great outdoors. At the very least, you will get to spend a couple days with like-minded people who want to get of the grid for a couple days, sweat a little and get ready for the next adventure!

"My favorite hike is the Red Peak Pass in Yosemite. High mountain lakes, wide open meadows and the highest pass in Yosemite National Park - so views are endless. Best part is there are so few people to encounter - no 300 person line attempting the ascent up Half Dome! "
