Arizona: Paria Canyon Hiking Trip
"Break on through to the other side." - The DoorsParia Canyon is famous for its colorful slot canyon that crosses Northern Arizona and Southern Utah. It is among the longest and deepest in the world. On our Paria Canyon hike, we take you trekking right through these narrow gorges and around rare rock formations found only in this region. We'll also pass through some slot canyons that are so narrow - you can touch both sides with your arms spread out.
This adventure trip is for beginning and experienced backpackers alike, but be ready to be wet a good portion of your Paria Canyon hiking trip. Advanced permits are required and only 30 people are allowed to stay overnight in the entire canyon per day, so the area remains relatively unspoiled by humans. It's a real "roughin' it" adventure. There are no designated trails on this tour - you just head straight into the canyon. One way in, one way out - all through massive rock corridors. We will also make our way up Buckskin Gulch for some real slot canyon adventure!
Water fills the narrow passageways after long rainfalls, so we will find ourselves walking through the Paria River for part of the trip. Depending on the time of year and how much precipitation the area had we may be wading through the water. Extra socks are a must for this Paria Canyon hike! Yet the wading adds to the mystique - it's likely you'll never see anything else like this in your lifetime.
