Yosemite Falls/Snow Creekprint
This Just Roughin' It Yosemite backpacking tour is a great alternative to the ever popular, and crowded, Half Dome 3 day trip. While also starting from Yosemite Valley, the Yosemite Falls/Snow Creek tour will have you leaving the day hiking crowds behind after a few miles as you ascend on the Upper Yosemite Falls trail. You will hike up the tallest fall in the park, as well as the lower 48 states, spend the night on top of El Capitan, see Half Dome from across the Valley from the less populated North Dome, and then make your way back to the Valley, finishing the loop via the Snow Creek trail.
The Yosemite Falls/Snow Creek hike is the perfect trip for anyone looking for a challenge (beware; this is the mother of all Stairmaster workouts), and is already visiting the Valley but want to stay away from the Half Dome craziness. You will still get much of the same views on the Upper Yosemite Falls hike, but, with more time for yourself!
A 3 day trip is also available covering the same route but with less time for side hikes and exploration.
*Route Variation - Our specific hiking route and campsites on each departure are dependent upon permit availability.
We start our adventure from Fresno. After a 2 hour drive, we arrive at Yosemite Valley where we start our ascent up the tallest waterfall in the lower 48 states. Views, and the climb, all the way to the top are breathtaking! After about 5 miles (8 km) of hiking, and a 3,200-foot (975 m) gain in elevation, we reach our campsite just past Yosemite Point. This is our home for the next 2 nights.
After breakfast, we set out to the east for a day hike to the top of El Capitan and beyond. Our path today will cross the scenic Eagle Creek Meadows on the way to Eagle Peak and El Capitan for more spectacular views of the Yosemite Valley. We shed the weight of the full backpack today for just a daypack with our essentials for the day. The total planned hiking distance is 11 miles (17.7 km) with some slight ups and downs as we hike along the north rim of the Yosemite Va
We pack up and hike toward Indian Rock and North Dome. We will take a couple side hikes in order to ascend the 8,522-foot (2,597 m) Indian Rock and the 7,542-foot (2,298 m) North Dome. From North Dome, we will have outstanding views of Half Dome and Clouds Rest. Our goal is to camp along Snow Creek this evening, at an elevation of about 7,000 feet (2,134 m). Today's hike will be about 8 miles (12.9 km).
The group packs up camp and we finish our loop by descending the Snow Creek Trail. This is a steep 2,500-foot (762 m) decent over 2 miles (3.2 km) before we hit the floor of Yosemite Valley. We once again have great scenery along the trail and the group is usually back to the Yosemite Valley with enough time for lunch and souvenir shopping before we head back to Fresno to complete your journey. The total mileage hiked this day is from 4 to 6 miles (6.4 to 9.7 km).

The trip was amazing!! Our guide was great and the views were incredible. I am looking forward to another summer adventure with Just Roughin' It next year.
My trip was great! My guide, James was very professional. Excellent physical condition. He was knowledgeable about our trails, terrain and campsites. He put my needs before his own. He made the trip fun...I hope you are grateful to have him as a guide.
The gear was top notch, clean and well maintained. The food was a nice surprise. It was really good! James took his time with all the meals and he was well prepared.
Overall, it was an unforgettable experience. I also wanted to see Yosemite and with a guide it took all the worries out of being in a new, unfamiliar place. I was expecting to enjoy scenery for 4 days and that was exactly what I received! Your driving staff to and from the park were very pleasant and easy to talk to. Thank-you so much. I'm sure I will be booking another trip with JRI. Great job to all!
Yosemite Falls/Snow Creek Backpacking Tour was a great experience. It was very challenging, but a trip I will never forget. The views were amazing and our guide was very accommodating and knowledgeable. We were new to backpacking and this was the perfect way to learn what we needed to do to enjoy our trip and be safe while exploring the trails. I would recommend this trip to anyone who wants to experience Yosemite finest views and an unforgettable trip. Thanks Just Roughin'Iit for taking care of all the details.
First of all Mike and I cannot thank you enough for making our trip a fabulous one. We were picked up in Fresno at 7:00 am by our friendly driver John. He was friendly and really made us feel comfortable on our ride to the Yosemite Valley. We arrived without a hitch and soon met our guide Clay.
Clay was certainly an amazing guide that did an amazing job with everything from cooking, helping us with anything needed, to just having amazing conversation. Mike and I just clicked with Clay from day one and he truly was the reason for our perfect vacation! (well, actually our honeymoon!) Clay is so knowledgeable and this shined through throughout our entire 30 mile journey. Our first was a hike up Yosemite Falls and it certainly is "The Ultimate Stair Master!" Clay knew just how to keep our spirits up and kept us smiling the entire time. He was so eager to make sure we told him if we needed a break or if we were hungry! Every day was better and better and the laughs and conversations we had were priceless. We absolutely would ask for Clay again!
Watching the news these past few weeks has broken Mike and my hearts. We actually encountered our own fire while we were hiking and Clay jumped right into action. Mike and Clay began to put out flames while I called 911. The heavy water they carried up that hill was unbelievable but they both were determined to out it out! I videoed the entire thing! LOL!
The food "Just Roughin It" gave us is like no other hiking food I have ever had! Mike and I were so surprised with the variety of food you provided to us! We want to use some of your ideas on our own hiking trips! The stir fry and pesto were amazing and the oatmeal was out of this world! Well, my only complaint is I have no idea how to make it. I tried to make it this week but it tasted nothing like yours! Almond butter??? Can you share the ingredients? Clay is also quite the chef. He just cooked the best!
Once again we cannot thank you for our amazing trip! We absolutely have nothing but great thing to say! Clay is fantastic and a one of a kind! We than him for taking such good care of us and creating a life time of memories! We thank you for allowing us the opportunity to see the most beautiful landscape and also for letting us check off a bucket list item!
Just Roughin It is the way to go and we cannot wait to do the Grand Canyon next time!
