Tonto Trail - Grand Canyon Backpacking Trip

The Tonto Trail spans 100 miles, providing many opportunities for exploration and adventure in and around the walls of the Grand Canyon.

One of our favorites is the Grandview Trail to the South Kaibab Trailhead. This nearly 30-mile hike can be completed in four to seven days.

First, we'll take you to Horseshoe Mesa. Here, we'll go hiking in a Grand Canyon cave - the only one open to tourists - or along the secluded Tonto Trail where we camp by seasonal streams in the shade of cottonwood trees. You will see very few people on this hike until we get to South Kaibab Trail.

Another fun and social option is to spend the last night in civilization at Bright Angel Camp. We can visit the canteen at Phantom Ranch just a quarter mile away for a well-deserved lemonade.

Want even more days and miles in the Canyon? We can take you farther along the Tonto Trail to Bright Angel Trail or Hermit Trail.
