The Phoenix area may be the fifth largest metropolitan area nationwide, but don't let the city image fool you. The sprawling cityscape is dotted with diverse mountains and ranges all but a few miles from "civilization."
We can take you through South Mountain's spring wildflowers or Cave Creek's desert beauty. The Phoenix Mountain Preserve - smack dab in the middle of the city - offers miles of trails. You'll likely forget that urban life is at your back. Want a real challenge? We can take you to the steep trek up Camelback Mountain - a popular training ground for locals with red boulders that will provide you with a leg workout like no other - not to mention an incredible panorama view of the city.Just miles outside the Phoenix area, stand the Superstition Mountains. You may have heard of them from the legend of the Lost Dutchman's Gold - a rich gold mine that's been missing for more than 100 years! What's not missing is adventure - the range has miles of trails, petroglyphs and unique rock formations. We'll travel along paths originally carved out by early miners and other settlers that explored the wilderness many years ago. You can hike along jagged cliffs toward the top of peaks with panorama views of the Valley and beyond.
Northeast of Phoenix, you'll see four seemingly equal triangular peaks along the southern Mazatzals. That's (not surprisingly) called Four Peaks. There are a ton of trails in this area. We can trek up Browns Trail, which leads to the highest of the four peaks, or visit an old amethyst mine. Remnants of a wildfire several years back still line the road to several trailheads, but many of the trails themselves are still thick with green brush. Locally, Four Peaks has another claim to fame - it's the name of a favorite Tempe brewery and really tasty brew.Trip Cost/Person
